CHARACTER
"you're a good person, rhys." words he's heard a lot, heard too much. he isn't sure if he's a good person. he feels too much, cursed with more compassion than this world deserves.having grown up in a world that isn't easy on those who don't have a lot, rhys is naturally skeptical towards the elite. even now that he has (on paper) joined them and no longer needs to shy away from them nor bend to every demand, the memories of hard times still linger, and they leave him wary of people's intentions when approaching him.it isn't that he's overly cautious of people. he's not at all. extroverted to a fault, he seeks out new experiences and social interactions with people he's decided are okay to trust. it doesn't take a lot to get under his skin. while attentive and always picking up on small details, he's also prone to seeing the good in people. for better or for worse.a people person is what he is. he finds his energy from being around friends and easily feels alone. while he thrives with a large network, there's only a limited number of people he truly lets close and allows to see sides of him past his kind, easy-going exterior.in many ways, rhys still has the mindset of a citizen. he may no longer be staying in snell hall, nor does he work late shifts at the cafe. others may be perceiving him differently now, but honestly? he feels the same. he feels the same, except that he now has a voice. he's always been blunt, straightforward with his opinions, but it's mostly been kept for safer spaces with friends. now that things are undoubtedly easier and he no longer moves around arcadia fearing negative backlash to his family, he's much more upfront, much more vocal.
AESTHETIC
#1 ZEINAB . zeinab is beautiful. as a kid, rhys knew nothing better than the weekends when his dad would take him to the centre of the capital. he remembers the first time he went to see the top and centre of the city. the palace. the office buildings. remembers telling his dad how he wished they could live there, how he wished he could look at it every day. of course, they couldn't. because with every visit to the centre came the journey back home. home to the bottom of the capital, far from the extravagancy of the zeinab.he doesn't remember when he started drawing. his mother says he's been doing it since the first time he picked up a crayon. if he believes it, he isn't sure. what he does know is that, as long as he recalls, drawing has been a part of his life. what started as childish portrayals of his family home quickly grew into sketches of rooms, of the tiny houses in his neighbourhood, and later, of the grand buildings in the centre of zeinab.
#2 ARCADIA . arcadia was never in the cards for him. it wasn't for his people.rhys had never asked for much, if anything at all. especially nothing that would require the amount of money an education at arcadia would need. he'd once spoken of great ambitions and pursuing a career of the highest degree, but as he grew later into his teens, realised the true reality of his people.even with the offer of a scholarship to arcadia, he was well aware that the financial situation of his family just couldn't allow it. so when his parents tell him that they've been saving up for his education, for him to pursue his lifelong passion, his talent as a career, he cries. it's unfair. his parents are good people, they deserve a life just as good as theirs. and with each situation emphasising the difference between his family and those living at the higher ends of the city, determination starts to fill him up.if you can't beat them, join them.
#3 NOBILITY . joined them, he has.in the span of just a couple of days, rhys life changed from what he's grown up to know to everything he's been watching from afar. after a failed assassination attempt on the newly crowned princess of avani, rhys father was brought in to take over the royal guard. with a decade of rhys' family being heavily involved with the now royal family and providing a safe space for the princess, it was (rhys assumes so) an easy choice. and with his father's new high position came nobility. for him, for his family. now, rhys must navigate the treacherous world of nobility after his family's sudden rise in status.

ever since the day eden quite literally (albeit involuntarily) forced her way into his life more than ten years ago, he's considered her one of the most important people in his life. he doesn't doubt for a second that eden will be there for him in need, as he will be for her. their lives are and have always been intertwined and the fact stands that rhys would likely pick her side no matter the situation.

he'd never seen this friendship coming. and if it hadn't been for ilya's consistency when rhys was still at the lowest of the social hierarchy, they would've never gotten to call it that. they've come a long way. ilya makes him feel safe, makes it all seem a little easier, and rhys admires him more than anything for his courage despite the heavy weight that's been placed on his shoulders.
FIONA CHOI.
close friend and ex roommate. when everything else fails, fiona is there. though he complains about her on a daily, he adores her. and fiona may claim to be the older sibling between them, but rhys feels about her like he feels about his siblings at home. would quite literally take a bullet for her.
ALON LEE.
also known as cold brew boy. or cole. just some dude who enjoys bitter, iced coffee. also a habitual liar. is alon his real name? he doesn't know him very well. probably wouldn't have paid too much attention to him if he hadn't noticed his art one time at the cafe. now, he's intrigued, wants to learn more (maybe he just wants to watch him draw).

growing up on the outskirts of zeinab, there wasn't much to do. but during the time ahana stays in town, there is. more than friends but not quite lovers, ahana opened rhys' eyes to previously unexplored feelings. but as always, life happened, and the two of them were pulled apart before anything more serious got a chance to evolve.

OPEN / ANYONE .︱ the suddenly rise in status for rhys' family isn't purely a positive change. the attention on the former citizen is much bigger now and not everyone agrees with the recent changes in avani. perhaps you or your family's name was tainted by the downfall of the former royal family and knowing (assuming) that the parks were involved to some extent, rhys is someone you now quite simply can't stand the sight of.
